Healthcare Overhaul Would Be Risky for a President Obama -- Seattlepi.com E-mail to friends

In 1993-1994, a Democratic president and a Democratic Congress tackled the issue of health care. It was a huge undertaking--perhaps even an overwhelming one. Health care reform was not passed; other issues were unaddressed; the party took a hit in the next election.

Will history repeat itself? Democratic senators are setting the stage to address health care reform again, planning for another Democratic president/Congress confluence. Certainly, the time seems to be right, with concern about health care access and costs sweeping the country. This editorial examines whether Barack Obama, if president, should tackle health care reform first and foremost, or take another course of action.
