In this editorial, which is adapted from his recent Health Affairs article, Bodaken argues that insurers are no longer trying to block health care reform efforts, as they did in 1994. Rather, he says, they are acutely aware that the crisis is spiralling out of control, and so they have tried to help with "cooperative" efforts such as those in California and Massachusetts. Federal policymakers, Bodaken says, "would be making a big mistake if they wrote off the health insurance industry in those [health reform] deliberations."
