| Wal-Mart Law | The so-called Wal-Mart Law is a Maryland law that was struck down by a federal judge in 2007. It would have forced the nation's largest employer, Wal-Mart Stores, to spend more money on healthcare for its employees in that state.

| Wellness | Wellness refers to the state of being healthy. It is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” There is debate about whether “wellness” is a state of being or a goal that we must keep trying to achieve. Workplace wellness programs, for example, aim at improving the health of employees by offering fitness centers, on-site health screening, and information or programs on nutrition, stress management, and smoking cessation. (See Preventive health.)
